Play is the first and natural language of children. Play Therapy is way of engaging with a child using that natural language. Through play, the therapist can help the child learn to better express themselves and problem solve. Play Therapy is a developmentally informed and effective treatment for behavior problems, anger management, grief, divorce, trauma, anxiety, ADHD, and Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Play Therapy works best with the involvement of a caregiver. First, the therapist will meet with one or both parents to complete an intake assessment. Second, the therapist will set an appointment to meet with the child. Then, the therapist will meet with the child for regular sessions and involve the parents as needed. Typically, therapists give parents a summary of what was played about and teach the parents any strategies that may be helpful for the family at home.
