Payments & Insurance

Account Access & Bill Pay
There are several payment options available to you as a client at Sandhill Counseling & Consultation including private-pay, in-network insurance, out-of-network insurance and Health Savings Accounts. When you call to make an appointment, fees and payment options can be discussed to determine the best choice for you.

PRIVATE PAY

Many clients choose to pay privately for their counseling services as it allows the benefit of receiving counseling without a mental health diagnosis or the constraints of an insurance plan.  In order for insurance to cover treatment services, there has to be (1) an identified patient (2) a diagnosis (3) it must be medically necessary (4) the treatment must be focused on treating the diagnosis.

Counseling services, not treating a mental health diagnosis are private pay services. Payments must be made at the time of the service via cash, check or credit card.

Couples and Marital Therapy is 100% private pay at Sandhill. Our approach conceptualizes the counseling as being for the relationship and focuses on issues above and beyond those that would be medically necessary. Insurance covers only services that are justifiable from a "medically necessary" for an individual client with a mental health diagnosis.

IN-NETWORK INSURANCE

Some therapists at Sandhill Counseling & Consultation are contracted to provide in-network services to clients. Co-payments must be made at the time of the service via cash, check or credit card. Sandhill will submit claims on the client's behalf for in-network services for the following insurance companies*:
Aetna
Anthem/Blue Cross Blue Shield
Cigna
Medicare
United Healthcare (Commercial Plans only)
When you call Sandhill at 636-379-1779 to set up your intake session, let the staff know that you plan to use your insurance and which carrier you have. Since not all therapists are contracted with all insurance plans, the staff member scheduling your intake session can set you up with an in-network provider; however, it is important to note that this does not guarantee coverage.

*If your insurance company is listed above, this does not guarantee coverage of services at Sandhill Counseling & Consultation. Clients must verify their specific plan's benefits.

OUT-OF-NETWORK INSURANCE

Clients with insurance coverage from third-party payors whom Sandhill or one of its therapists, is not contracted, may chose to submit their receipts to their insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement. It is important to remember that a mental health diagnosis is required to utilize health insurance. Sandhill does not submit claims for out-of-network services.  Payments must be made at the time of the service via cash, check or credit card.

HEALTH SAVINGS ACCOUNT

If available, clients may use their Health Savings Account or Flex Spending Account to pay for services.

WHAT IS A GOOD FAITH ESTIMATE?

Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, health care providers and health care facilities are required to inform individuals who are not enrolled in a plan or coverage or a Federal health care program, or not seeking to file a claim with their plan or coverage both orally and in writing of their ability, upon request or at the time of schedule health care items and services, to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” of expected charges.

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.
Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
