Nikki is a Licensed Professional Counselor, specializing in child therapy (ages 4-12). She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Central Florida, and in 2010 received her Master’s degree in counseling from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, TN. In her 18 years in the mental health field, she has provided psychiatric case management services, psychiatric assessment for nursing home residents, and counseling to adults in a residential treatment setting. Most recently, Nikki has used her clinical counseling skills in an elementary school environment. This has given her unique insight into school culture and understanding of classroom accommodations that can improve academic and social success.
Nikki enjoys helping young people develop healthy coping skills and improve relationships with peers, teachers, and family. She primarily uses child centered therapy, which focuses on building the therapeutic relationship, and helping the child feel safe and valued. She enjoys using a variety of creative interventions to help the child communicate needs and problem solve through play and art activities. Nikki also recognizes the value of an eclectic approach to counseling and incorporates a variety of other treatment styles and interventions such as: cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused, motivational interviewing, attachment parenting techniques, and strengths based approaches. Nikki has training in helping children with anxiety, depression, grief, divorce, ADHD, Autism spectrum disorders, behavioral concerns, trauma, self-esteem, anger management, bullying, phobias, and sleep difficulties. In addition to in-person therapy, Nikki has experience providing telehealth therapy with children, and has access to a variety of creative virtual interventions and techniques. Nikki has also worked with adults using a strengths-based, client centered approach. She has assisted individuals with a range of mental health diagnoses as well as those experiencing stressful life events. She believes in the importance of building trust in the therapeutic relationship, and letting the client be the driver of their growth process. The decision to start therapy is often the hardest step, and can sometimes feel vulnerable at first. Her goal is to create a welcoming, supportive space to help you make decisions that can improve your quality of life and relationships. In her free time, Nikki enjoys spending her free time snuggling her two young daughters, husband, and 4 cats (some of them enjoy snuggling more than others). She finds solace in bike-riding the Katy trail, singing, drawing, and cooking elaborate dinners for her family. |
