I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, specializing in child therapy (ages 4-12). I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Central Florida, and in 2010, I received my Master’s degree in counseling from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, TN. Over my 18 years in the mental health field, I have provided psychiatric case management services, psychiatric assessment for nursing home residents, and counseling to adults in a residential treatment setting. Most recently, I have used my clinical counseling skills in an elementary school environment. This has given me unique insight into school culture and an understanding of classroom accommodations that can improve academic and social success.
I enjoy helping young people develop healthy coping skills and improve relationships with peers, teachers, and family. I primarily use child-centered therapy, which focuses on building the therapeutic relationship, and helping the child feel safe and valued. I enjoy using a variety of creative interventions to help the child communicate needs and problem-solve through play and art activities. I also recognize the value of an eclectic approach to counseling and incorporate a variety of other treatment styles and interventions such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution-focused, motivational interviewing, attachment parenting techniques, and strengths-based approaches. I have training in helping children with anxiety, depression, grief, divorce, ADHD, Autism spectrum disorders, behavioral concerns, trauma, self-esteem, anger management, bullying, phobias, and sleep difficulties. In addition to in-person therapy, I have experience providing telehealth therapy with children and have access to a variety of creative virtual interventions and techniques. I have also worked with adults using a strengths-based, client-centered approach. I have assisted individuals with a range of mental health diagnoses as well as those experiencing stressful life events. I believe in the importance of building trust in the therapeutic relationship and letting the client be the driver of their growth process. The decision to start therapy is often the hardest step and can sometimes feel vulnerable at first. My goal is to create a welcoming, supportive space to help you make decisions that can improve your quality of life and relationships. In my free time, I enjoy snuggling with my two young daughters, husband, and 4 cats (some of them enjoy snuggling more than others). I find solace in bike-riding on the Katy trail, singing, drawing, and cooking elaborate dinners for my family. |
