Amy is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. She graduated from Maryville University in 2016 with a Master of Arts in Rehabilitation Counseling. Before making this complete career shift, she completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Communications/Public Relations from Southeast Missouri State University and spent 20 years in marketing and management.
Amy specializes in helping people through important life transitions: adolescent development, family systems - especially divorced and blended situations, career planning and changes, women's issues, communication skills, and the mental health concerns that can accompany or hinder change. Amy has five years of clinical counseling experience. Beginning as a hotline crisis counselor, her completion of Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) has allowed her to help many people create a personalized plan for safety. Amy is an experienced professional counselor having also spent two years in private practice and more than three years as a school counselor in a comprehensive high school for students of varying financial backgrounds, learning abilities, family dynamics, and mental health needs. As a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, Amy is trained to help people with physical and developmental abilities access community resources and live life to their full potential. Amy uses a strengths-based perspective to assist clients in recognizing maladaptive thought patterns and behaviors, identifying the changes in their control, and taking the steps toward the life they desire. Her integrative technique helps her to individualize treatments using a blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Mindfulness, among others. Amy enjoys working with clients of all ages, with a special ability for connecting with teens and adults under 40. Young at heart and a self-proclaimed pop culture junkie, Amy easily finds common ground to quickly build trust with a younger generation. Amy is passionate about social justice and diversity issues, and creates a safe space for people who are marginalized in any way. In her free time, Amy enjoys traveling, attending concerts, and collecting useless trivia facts. |
